A Paradigm Shift? (Warning: NC-17 entry)

percivalAbove the door to my husband's offices there's a huge sign saying "To Let".
The flat is still far from finished. We're waiting with doing the floors until we know what our financial situation is going to be in the next year.
I am thinking about writing a Habilitation. That's a sort of second Ph.D. for you non-Germans. I'd be writing it to draw my German academic career to a meaningful close. It's also the main hurdle I need to take in order to find long-term academic employment in Germany.
The snag? Well, the thesis will have to be written and submitted by summer 2005. The people who grant you the Habilitation are the faculty, you see. And since the professor who would supervise my Habilitation has had various posts in university management, he's bound to have made some enemies. So, I will need his protection to pass, no matter how good my work is.
And said professor leaves in the summer of 2006 (latest).
So, I'm foreseeing hard, hard work.
No wonder then that my urge to procreate has suddenly ... taken a dramatic dip. I'm sure I couldn't handle the stress of an adoption on top of the flat and the habilitation and the financial insecurity.
All I can do is try to be as healthy as possible and meanwhile enjoy lots of sex without consequences.
