This is the first in a series of shameless polls designed to help me build my massage business. As a reward for helping me out (hey, this is market research, after all), I promise everybody who answers any of the polls a thirty-minute massage, no matter when we meet and no matter how experienced I will be at that time.

In this question, I'd like to ask you about the ideas, feelings, preconceptions, expectations you associate with certain phrases.
Feel free to answer in the comments if the poll space (255 chars) is not sufficient. You can answer in sentences or phrases. Please feel free to be honest; associations such as "wanker", "free sex", or "rubbish" are just as valuable as "pure bliss", "competence", and "relief".

I'm afraid I'm a very bad person to ask, since my associations are completely nonsensical. See above.

No, they've actually been very helpful. Remusly.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Just a clarification on why I answered the way I did to the deep-tissue massage question, which was probably one of the odder answers you will get:

Years ago I had a deep-tissue massage in trade for doing someone's astrological chart. I was very tense at the time and my masseur remarked that massaging my shoulders was like popping bubble wrap as I had so many knots! It did hurt at the time but it felt good afterwards...

FYI, I know next to nothing about massages, since I don't make appointments for them... The best one I ever had was from some employee at an "old style" pharmacy in Morocco. Go figure.

Anyway, I hope those associations weren't too cringeworth. >.

My answers were probably less than helpful, but I figured I'd go ahead and answer anyway. Good luck.

I'm having physical therapy right now (since mid-May really) for my fibromyalgia. My therapist uses ultrasound first, then does deep-tissue massage on my upper back, shoulders and neck. I think it's helped me a lot. I'd say my pain has gone from about 4.5 (on a 1-10 scale, 10 being worst) down to around 3.5, so that's about a 30% reduction in pain from 4-5 appointments. I wish they'd let me do it every week :(

i have a somewhat related question... i was actually looking for someplace to have a pre-natal massage. i have a recommendation for a place from a friend, but i'm wondering if there's anything in particular i should ask them - if they're certified, that sort of thing.

any thoughts would be much appreciated :D
