Following [livejournal.com profile] cerise_noir's sage advice a couple of weeks ago, I'm taking a rest. I feel drained and exhausted because in my mind, all my jobs are amounting to SO MUCH PRESSURE. Now I need to go back to taking one step at a time - if I don't I'll collapse wiht mental stress.

I probably also need to take at least one day a week "off" as in "no work".

Speaking of which, I received my ITEC diploma today. The marks for the multiple choice were pretty much as I'd predicted them, but the practical mark took me by surprise: 66/100, where >60 pass, >70 credit, >90 distinction. I know I am a good masseuse, and I had all the right kit. So what was it?

At first, I started to doubt whether massage was the right profession. Then I sneered at ITEC for being the people who commissioned Louise Tucker to write their textbooks (obviously rather clueless, as devoted readers of this journal will know). And then, I thought - hang on for a sec, Perce. This is an ego trip you are on. Perceval vanquisher of muscular tension, "I will knead him, I will make him supple". Lust after me, o clients, for ye shall never find a better massage therapist in the whole of Edinburgh.

Patently rubbish.

I just need to find my way and evolve my style - that's all.

It's not about being THE BEST, it's about serving the needs of the client - and I am gathering the knowledge required to do that, thank you very much.

The more we leave our egos behind, the better we are at massage.

It's not about us 'fixing' anyone. It's about what the client needs and how we can meet their needs, not ours.

You'll be just fine.

That's how I see the doctor-patient relationship.

Unfortunately, toxic enlargement of the ego is more prevalent among physicians than massage therapists.

Alternatively, I can post my RL e-mail address in a locked entry.

I'm booked pretty much solid next week, but I have time tomorrow afternoon and the week after next.

Hmmm. I wonder if Jo Rowling ever needs a massage?? She does live in Edinburgh, you know :D Congratulations on getting your diploma! If you weren't halfway around the world I'd pay you to give ME a massage. If I had money I'd get one every week. They're heaven:)

It's quite funny we teach most what we need...

In ur post you talk about slowing down, but in one of your responses you talk about being book solid for the rest of the week, but having free time the following day...

that doesn't sound much like slowing down to me... LOL!!

but it's a start... we all working it out some how.

love & light

slowing down means taking the weekend off :)

... which won't happen again for a while, or unless I catch another cold.
