I'm back from Inverness, relaxed and raring to go. Meanwhile, no letter from the Edinburgh Fertility Unit re my fibroids (as if, as if), no sign of us having been contacted for the fertility study, no sign of an IVF appointment. No news from Newcastle - apart from a request for help by a student and the information that the Ethics Committee needs clarification of three points. No news about any contract or starting date of any such thing. Finally, no news from an employer that might offer me an alternative part-time job. The meeting where I was supposed to learn more (to take place tomorrow) has been cancelled. Such is life - I'll just battle on with the fine support I do have.
On holiday, I've not only managed to relax, I've also cut down my caffeine consumption to one decaf latte a day. Yes, part of the detox is working! Now, I need to get round to three portions of fruit and three of veg per day.

To help the emotional detox, I've come across two great books: First Things First by Stephen Covey and associates, and Finding your North Star by Martha Beck. I can wholehartedly recommend both. I bought them at the Borders, Inverness Retail Park, because I felt I needed to read them and listen to their message while still on holiday. That was a very good move, even though I could have saved 6-8 pounds by using amazon instead. The price you pay for reading the right things at the right time ...
Covey's book is a great approach to time management. The key ideas are:
- focus on things that are important, not on things that are urgent
- schedule your time around the roles you fulfil in life (maximum of 7)
- for each role, identify one key task you want to get done, that will make the biggest difference, and schedule it into your calendar
- schedule the rest of your time around it.
This sounds like a great approach, and I'll try it out in my planning for next week. My current roles are myself, spouse, friend, massage therapist, grant writer, paper writer, lecturer.
Martha Beck's book is about finding your destiny, and dealing with life-changing crises. It's hands on, well written, free of mumbo jumbo, and full of exercises designed to get you in touch with mental-emotional signs that show you are following your true destiny. It also deals with disorientation, being downbeat, panic, resignation, and fear as you change. Thoroughly, thoroughly recommended.

Finally, apologies to
saucebook, whom I neglected to mention in my brief update the other day. It was great to talk and to meet again over Indian food, and a relief to hear you are doing well.
