So we had an uplift of old furniture that no charity shop would take arranged for today - the uplift was done for free by the city council. My husband dismantled an old wardrobe, but he didn't manage to get the small two-seater IKEA sofa downstairs, as well. When I caught the council guys lifting our stuff up, I asked whether they could come in and help with the sofa, because we hadn't managed to get it downstairs. I'd heard several times that the council men will help if you're pregnant. Also, we didn't have a lot of stuff, and what we did have was already taken apart for easy uplift.
Nope. Only if you're registered disabled. Not allowed to come in otherwise. 36 WEEKS VISIBLY PREGNANT WITH HUGE BUMP doesn't count for a thing. They weren't obliged to help in any way, but it sure would have been nice. Milk of human kindness etc.
Right. Next weekend, we'll hire a man with a van and get that sofa to the dump.
