A reading by the author GP Taylor, a priest who has written several fantasy novels, was cut short by a teacher because of the above "offensive language":
as reported by The Guardian

The kids concerned were 11- and 12-year-olds.

Honestly, what is the world coming to? Those kids probably use far worse words in the playground on a daily basis. Compared to the language of their rap and hip-hop records, the words Taylor used sound tame.

I think some adults delight in taking offense 'on behalf of children' and their tender ears. Ha-ha! Most kids know way more blue language than I do. I also think a lot of people just like to take umbrage and look for any excuse. That teacher must have her head up her arse (gasp! A Bad Word! LOL) to think today's kids can be protected from all the world's rough edges.

I loved the Guardian article, this part made me grin: "That said, it has done my street credibility the world of good. I was cool before, now I'm uber-cool. How many vicars get expelled from a school?"

Thanks for linking that, as I clearly had the wrong impression of him before reading it. I'm sure parents would send their kids to public appearances by him, if the schools won't take him. He seems to reach people very well.

As for the swearing, the kids most likely hear that from their parents anyway. I've let one slip all too often and had to apologize for it, so I expect the kids to cover their mouths and say "Oops, sorry!" too.
