So who IS this Chris Morris guy, then?
May. 12th, 2004 04:23 pmChristopher Morris comes from a middle class Catholic family. He has two brothers and enjoyed a quality Jesuit education.
These good influences notwithstanding / under the influence of the antichrist that is Roman Catholicism (delete as appropriate), from an early age, Christopher showed a marked tendency towards what kind observers might call biting satire, high irony, and funny jokes. Others might call it a thoroughly sick sense of humour. Or just plain demented.
Chris Morris has been responsible for some of the most biting satire ever to be aired in Great Britain. No issue is too delicate, nothing is sacred. This is why he is so controversial. He is ruthless when it comes to choosing topics and perfectionist when it comes to planning and producing his shows. His shows are guaranteed not only to violate many people's feelings, but also to expose bigotry, double standards, and media exploitation of the vulnerable and the victims.
As a consequence, he's not exactly everybody's cup of tea, and I would imagine that quite a few of my F-list would be repulsed by a large part of his work. But for me, he's somebody who's got the courage to stand up for what he believes in, and to call a spade a spade.
