In summary, I forgot some of my birth plan, but it was still a lovely experience. I talked the birth plan through with a senior registrar at my last appointment, and when he found he was on duty on the day our daughter was born, he made sure to be the one to perform my operation. Even though a lot of it was determined by fixed procedures, I still felt empowered because I knew what was happening and why. It made a huge difference that I showed I was aware of the medical details.

We booked our holiday!!!

We are going on holiday this year! It's the one we wanted to go on before our daughter was born - a week on the Isles of Harris and Lewis, in a self-catering cottage. Extremely cheap flights have been booked, and a beautiful cottage with great views has been secured. The owner of the cottage incidentally has a daughter who is studying in Edinburgh who has the same first name as our baby! We'll be going a day after the fifth anniversary of our church wedding.

Our first proper holiday as a family - baby will be 13 months by the time we go!
