Season's Greetings!
Dec. 22nd, 2006 02:35 pmI sent my last five Christmas cards today (so some will be late). I haven't been home since December 8.
scieppan's card reached me before that date - thank you! If you are wondering whether your card has reached me, I will post a longer update on December 27, when we are back. This trip to Germany has been fairly busy, what with trips to see friends and family, and a long weekend in Berlin (work related; I had two meetings and gave a talk, which I also had to prepare). Fortunately, the pressure is off now and our little family can relax and settle into the Christmas spirit.
I don't know whether I will post again before Christmas, so I will leave you with a picture and a factoid. First the picture:
While we were in Berlin, Hanukkah was all over the city, a very visible celebration by the Jewish community.
And now the factoid. According to the German press, the title of the new Harry Potter is:
HARRY POTTER UND DIE HEILIGEN DES TODES
(Harry Potter and the Saints of Death). Interesting translation of Deathly Hollows - JKR, is there something you aren't telling us?
Friends-locked baby picture Christmas post coming up next ...

Date: 2006-12-22 06:49 pm (UTC)However, the Hebrew translations have always been lacking, IMO. For example, they've consistently called Muggles "Mooglegim" (don't ask me where they got that second "g"; the "im" is the plurality, so that's OK), and they make all sorts of other mistakes, particularly from the Latin (which, I suppose, is uderstandable, considering it's a whole 'nother alphabet). But still...
I'll stop whinging now. ;) Happy Hols!!
Happy Winter Solstice!
