I know that some of you ladies are quite into crafts etc. I'm not - I quite literally have two left hands. Nevertheless, I would like to be able to do some simple things, like knit really simple patterns, sew, be able to darn socks and stockings. I am now teaching myself to knit, and I am stuck. I can't seem to be able to purl. I'm waiting for Stitch'n'Bitch at the moment, but my hunch is that I am so incredibly miserably stupidly dumb when it comes to anything manual that I would really benefit from some hands-on help. One day, I want to knit my daughter a teddy. And I want to demonstrate to her that you don't have to be 100% top at something to be able to do it and even enjoy it a little.

So, anyone in the Edinburgh area? Hello? Help?

I can knit if you want some help :-) Although I still suck at reading patterns!

If I were in Edinburgh, I'd certainly help you learn to knit! I never thought I'd be able to do it, either-- I tried crocheting and was *horrible* at it, and everyone said that crocheting is easier than knitting! But my aunt taught me, and it was much easier than it looked. :P

Anyway, the best I can do is point you to the wonderful website knittinghelp.com, which has videos of how to do the various stitches and techniques. It's not quite as good as having someone to put their hands on your hands when you're lost, but it's better than trying to learn from a book. :) They've also got forums where you can ask for help.

There's also a good LJ community, [livejournal.com profile] novice_knitters, where you can ask questions and get guidance.

And if there's anything I can do, I'd be happy to help.

As long as you know how to purl :) are you part of the cityknitty group? What would be a good place to meet, probably somewhere with soft play - it would be great to meet up!

i have never managed to make it to city knitty :-) Where about in Edinburgh are you? I only really know Mollys @ Ocean Terminal for soft play.

I can do Molly's, even though it's a bit pricey (2.75 per hour). Let me check out Our Dynamic Earth - they have soft play costing 1.50 per hour. If you're a Zoo member, then one of the restaurants does soft play for 50p per hour. We live 15 minutes from the Zoo :)

handy to know - let's see how we get on time-wise, because we will have a lot of Harry to discuss. Also, if Ruth doesn't have a play area, it's difficult for me to concentrate on anything :) She is into everything these days. We'll be there by 3pm ( we may be earlier, depending on buses; I'm planning on taking a bus out to HW just after 2pm) and I would like to go to Quaker Meeting at 4pm at the Chaplaincy.
