A very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] misspince and a belated happy New Year (?) to all my Jewish LJ friends.

I'm at WORX checking the Internet, and planning our Christmas trip back home to Germany. A rental car is a must, because my husband's family is from the Siegerland, and mine is in Mönchengladbach, while our friends live all over the place.

I'm going to update the Linguistics filter when I get home, after completing the lecture for tomorrow and working some more on the report. It's a bright and sunny day here in Edinburgh, and hubby and me are going to exploit it to the max by walking around Prince's Street.

My life is quite busy, but rewarding. I enjoy writing and discovering new facts, I enjoy teaching. I don't mind working 6-8 hours each weekend, because I'm busy immersing myself in things I like. Strange, isn't it?

Hey, I might even get to go to Dublin soon - for a day in mid-October, and for a week in December. I'm going to consult for a project that proposes to build speech synthesisers for Irish Gaelic and Welsh. They are consulting me because of the Diploma thesis I wrote in 1996/1997: text-to-speech synthesis for Scottish Gaelic. This means I will have to brush up my Gaelic and look at Welsh :P Cool!

I'm remusly suspecting that what with my research career taking off this way, and what with my massage course starting next weekend, I won't have time for the Certificate in Health Studies that I wanted to do at the University of Edinburgh's Lifelong Learning Centre. It would "steal" two evenings a week for three terms; I'd learn basic Shiatsu, basic Homeopathy, basic Clinical Psychology and Mental Health. Hmmm ... it would be a nice fluffly diversion from WORX. I will have to evaluate ... The last thing I want to do is to drown my sorrows in activism and workaholism, if you know what I mean.

It's so weird, though - once I freed some time up at the Company, the research opportunities started coming in thick and fast. Coincidence? Serendipity? Who knows?

Of course not! Enjoy the change for the better!

You're going to have to enlighten me here - which area is the Siegerland?

I took a five-week Shiatsu course years and years ago. We still use some of the techniques and I wish I could remember more of them. What encompasses "basic homeopathy"? I'm interested in alternative medicine, Eastern and herbal applications especially.

Feel free to friend me! I feel as though I know you from SlowFox and Brightfame's journals.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I had the most wonderful day.

I'm jealous of you. I've always wanted to go to Dublin. Ireland is one country in Europe that I haven't visited yet.
