Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] alphabet26:

Comment here with one of your happiest memories. You don't have to go into great detail, or reveal anything private that you don't want others to know. Just a happy memory you have. Then, post this in your own LJ and I'll hop on over and reciprocate. I'm hoping that this will help us get to know a little something positive about our LJ friends.

One of my happiest memories is my wedding - the first, small registry office affair. It was an intimate ceremony, well conducted by the acting official. My work colleagues stood guard outside the entrance when we came out - it was a wonderful surprise. Photos were made at my old place of work, we had a family lunch at the Bonn Museum of Modern Art, and then, my new husband and me were whisked off to Paris courtesy of the amazing Thalys, where we stayed in a small hotel in the Marais, easily one of the most beautiful parts of the city, close to Victor Hugo's birthplace.

Happy memories...oh, I know one. Since my hockey team just knocked themselves out of the playoffs for this season, I'll talk about the time they won.

So, the night the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup for the first time. The team had just moved from Quebec to Colorado and they'd had a spectacular year. I still don't think anyone expected them to be able to win Lord Stanley, though. They were playing in Florida, against the Panthers, and it was one o'clock in the morning. If the Avs won, they got the Cup. It was--I can't remember if it was double or triple overtime. But it was overtime and everyone was tired. And they WON. I was watching with my mother and brothers and it was AMAZING. We were screaming and yelling and the Avs were suddenly completely energized. It was so cool; I've never felt like that about a sports team before. What a first year they had--it was great.

Happy memories - going to Alnmouth for the first time and seeing the dawn while in the chapel waiting for the Angelus and Morning Prayers.

Expecto Patronum!

Last summer my family visited Manhattan. After our parents and brothers were tired out for the night, my sisters and I went out and bummed around downtown New York in the middle of the night for an hour or so. The ice-cream shop we wanted to patronize (the Serendipity) was crammed to the gills even at that hour, so we didn't get any ice-cream, but we had a lot of fun together anyway.

Happy memories

Raking leaves with my dad. Playing stupid arcade games with my mom. My first vacation with my peers (no parents) to Lake Tahoe, California. The annual Polynesian dance show I did for ten years. All wonderful happy memories.

Here's one:

My family moved from Alabama to Florida when I was seven. I was heartbroken to be leaving my home and friends, but there was the enticement... we were going to live right near the beach! there were palm trees! and orange trees!

After a long nine-hour-or-so drive, with both parents exhausted because they had to drive separate cars, we arrived at our cheap hotel (on the beach) at bedtime. Maybe 10 PM. We checked in and then, before we even looked at our room or unloaded our car, we poured down the soft sand slope to the beach.

It was a very dark light -- moonless -- and the only light was from the waves phosphorescing on the sand. We three kids (7, 5, and 3) immediately started whining to go swimming. It was pitch black and way past our bedtime and we were exhausted and our swimsuits were not even *with* us, but in the moving van. But our parents said YES! And we all skinned out of our clothes - even Mom and Dad - and went into the warm black water in our underwear. What a thrill!

I started to think then that I might like living in Florida.

And now you're in Texas ... ?

Incidentally, did you know that Johnny Depp wants Keith Richards to do a cameo in PotC 2?
