I'm not training in Indian Head Massage. The one I got yesterday, from the guy who was going to train me, was ... not as good as I'd hoped. The strokes were nice and effective, but in terms of mood setting and ambiance - nil.

I wasa exhausted, having gotten up at 4.30am to catch the delayed 7.10 (which left at 8.25) from Dublin, after a fitful night's sleep.

He didn't manage to soothe and unwind me.

His touch was good, and I noted some interesting strokes, but the ambiance ... Sample: "Yeah, right, as I said, just imagine you have this white beam of light travelling through you."

I felt no energetic effects at all, and I'm normally pretty good at noticing effects of body work on my energy body. Shiatsu is fantastic, as is Reiki.

Plus, my hair STILL looks like I'm a distant cousin of Snape, even though I've washed it this morning.

On the plus side, the seminar in Naas was TERRIFIC. The teacher shared years of knowledge with us, pushed us and himself to the respective limit, gave as much as we could absorb.

But most importantly of all, at the start of the workshop, he went to considerable lengths to instill into all of us a "can do" attitude and to anchor us in that feeling.

This is the type of massage I want to do, this is how I want to work and to be taught.

The IRA (you know who I mean) took last week off instead of this without telling anybody, missing deadlines set by my boss in the process.

::rolls eyes at RA's continuing display of thoughtlessness and incompetence::

Sorry that the Indian head massage thing didn't work for you (but then it didn't sound as though the practioner was fully committed to the thing...).

And your hair is not Snape-ish by any stretch of the imagination! It's light - it looks fluffy (almost) in the photos I took of you, and I would never in a million years call it either oily or lanky or any of the other uncharitable desciptions by which Snape's coiffure is presented to us in the books.

well, it looks like that now because I can't get the ::insert expletive here:: oil out.

Reminds me of the when we have to kill recalcitrant lice at camp. 24-36 hours with Vaseline on your head and a shower cap over it. Not even dish soap takes it out--it takes well over a week to strip that gunk off your hair.

So this means daily hair washing with strong anti grease shampoo for a week or so?

Oh BOTHER - I probably should have rinsed my hair out as soon as I got home!

Well, given how heavy the oil sounds, it might not have helped that much. I'm serious about the dish soap--if that doesn't do it, well, then it is going to take several days of daily washing to get it out.

When I read "The IRA (you know who I mean)", I had to do a double-take, considering you've just been to Ireland - I had visions of your boss plotting mass destruction!

I do hope this RA at least gets some kind of official warning for their behaviour.

I had a brilliant INdian head massage from laura at BiBis which is on Bruntsfiled Place - you could try her.. She is really into it, told me lots about it.

I'll definitely try her - as soon as I've gotten that awful, awful oil out of my hair. Any handy hints? My Coop tea tree and mint shampoo didn't begin to make a dent ...

Again, and I hate to say it, because it's going to suck--liquid dish soap. Unless it's Vaseline, it will strip the oil right out. Rinse it out, try not to wince as you comb out your hair, dry it--and if the oil is completely gone, wet it back down and wash it with regular shampoo and conditioner.
