Birth date
Jul. 13th, 2005 05:06 pmOn August 8, 2005, we will finally get to see the little person who's been squishing my lungs, churning around in my belly, and making a splash in the amniotic fluid.
At 7.30am, we'll report to reception, and some time before lunch (hopefully), we will have our baby. We will be scheduled around the other elective Caesarean sections that day, with space for any emergencies that arise. Did I mention that I'm not to eat any breakfast, and that all I'm allowed to have is some water, tea or coffee with sugar (no milk) BEFORE 6am? I hope they do a nice line of IV blood glucose, because baby has this new trick of growing and growing and growing ...
Oh, and did you say you had a birth plan? Well, in principle, your birth plan is fine, except that you will have to negotiate it in a semi-famished state with the registrar, anesthesist, and paediatrician du jour. Sheesh. But then, I didn't expect anything else. I think pretending to be medical will help, so I'm off to buy an obs/gyn textbook ;)

Date: 2005-07-13 05:17 pm (UTC)Regarding birth plans, I agree with you. I think it's good to develop one and discuss it with your doctor, but during the actual birth, you will be dealing with 87,000 people OTHER than him/her, who have never seen your plan before. And I found with the first that I often wasn't in a state to really realize what was going on, which is why I commanded my husband to advocate for me OR ELSE with this last one. :)

Date: 2005-07-13 06:24 pm (UTC)Now, I think I'll tell you something. I promised to pray for you many months ago, and I particularly was asking the late Mother Teresa for her intercession for a very personal reason. You see, my Uncle David and Aunt Maria were married for years and unable to get pregnant. They were going through much the same sort of fertility treatment as you, but with no result. But when they met Mother Teresa, Aunt Maria asked her to pray that they could have a child.
She said, "God has lots of babies. I'll ask him to give you one."
A few months later, my aunt became pregnant with my cousin Suzanne, who's now 15. This wasn't an inexplainable miracle, of course, but I do think that prayer is a very powerful thing, and so I asked for her prayers for you.
Good luck with the baby, and congratulations again.

How's your baby doing? I was absent from LJ for more or less 4-5 months, too, because there's just so much to do - still winding up two part-time jobs, and I'll be working until the end of Week 37.

still a LOT to do ...

Date: 2005-07-13 07:38 pm (UTC)I wouldn't worry about the food. You will be so preoccupied with a million other things, I bet you won't even notice not eating. Questions that will probably take over your thoughts: What does he/she look like? Will he/she be healthy? Will it be quick? How will T react? How will I react? Do these doctors really know what they're doing? How can they be so calm?! ;-)
I know this is selfish of me to ask, but if there's anyway to shoot me a quick e-mail, I'll be on the edge of my seat here. If you or T are too busy, I'll totally understand.
I can't stop smiling now. :)
