Farewell, Frere Roger

This news came as a great shock to me. Stabbed during a service.

I've never been to Taizé, but I have heard wonderful things about it, and I love the songs. Taizé is a Christian community that crosses denominational lines and has been devoted to spreading a message of peace. Frère Roger was its founder.

I was in Taizé about ten years ago, with some friends. I still can remember him; he was just amazing and looked like it. He'd be surrounded by all those kids and he just looked *peaceful*, you know?

WTF?! Shocking. I never heard of the man before, still, I'm shocked. It's like the guy who gunned down Gandhi - you can't deal with a message of peace, so you kill the messenger.

I just heard about this and followed the news articles. How could anyone do such an awful thing? The man was old and wheelchair-bound. She stabbed him at prayer. He should have been a hero to her.

After reading about his life, I'd like to attend one of the services. It sounds like what I'm looking for.
