Solids question
Apr. 15th, 2006 02:27 pmFirst, let me thank
ailbhe for creating this community. I've been looking for something like this for quite a while now, and heeeere's my first question: How can I make solids more attractive for my girl?
My daughter (8 months) has been breastfed since birth. We were one of the lucky mother/baby pairs who didn't experience any problems. We slowly started solids from age 5 months (a cube or two of puree at a time), because I was worried about getting her to eat when I was at work. She started nursery four weeks ago and so far has been mostly refusing solids there. No packed lunches, very little nursery lunch, very few snacks. She's got a cold, too, which doesn't help. She will graze on finger foods (as in half a banana), but mostly it's still my milk. If she's away from me for a whole day, she'll mount a food strike. She's not too keen on jars, and if she has one, she only finishes half. And it's exhausting. What's even more exhausting is that she's started to fill up at night by feeding every 1-2 hours (I kid you not). It's as if she's read all the advice on reverse cycling on
breastfeeding and following it to the letter. I get 4oz of pumped milk normally, but haven't been pumping recently because she only takes very little milk from a cup.
Any ideas from the front line? Consistent feeding times? Vegetable soldiers? Hang on in there until she can have what we are having? Find one thing she likes and keep feeding it to her?

Cate's been eating bits of table food like turkey and banana and sweet potato or veg/chicken soup since 6+ months and since 11 months hasn't had a bite of puree-ed anything. You might want to try her on tidbits from your own plate and see if that interests her?

I agree with this. Ours was always very fascinated by what we were eating. You could try putting some of her food on your plate so she thinks she's eating what you're eating.
