I went to see my GP today.

Explanation for the delay in communication:
- The letter to my GP where they asked her to assess my suitability for IVF was typed a week after the appointment, sent out a week later.
- The waiting list for the appointment to get onto the IVF waiting list is normally 3-6 months, not 4-6 weeks, as the Icelandic registrar told me
- My GP had a copy of a letter about my fibroids, which was typed up last week, and received by the practice yesterday.

The GP palpated my abdomen, and one of the fibroids, which must have grown between 2002 and 2004, is the size of a grapefruit and needs to be monitored. It makes my belly look slightly swollen. She seems worried; she'll write to my consultant, whom I've never seen, always registrars, and ask for an appointment.

She advised me to stick to my guns and ask to see a consultant, even if that meant waiting until the end of the clinic.

I'm expecting to see a fertility doc sometime in February or March 2005, and then get my first course of IVF in autumn 2007 or winter 2007/2008, aged 34. That is, unless a miracle occurs some time before that and I fall pregnant.

Orthodox medicine can't do anything about fibroids, apparently, except cut them out if they seriously distort the shape of the uterus. I think mine does distort the shape of mine a little - you could see a clear dent in the fluid on the Hysterosalpingogram, which might have been it. But I would need to talk to a doctor about that who has my results, right? Well, we'll see - in another couple of months, hopefully.

I'm still incredibly tearful and upset; I broke down during the appointment and tears are welling up again as I write this.

I am SO going to stick to proper nutrition and no coffee.
I am SO going to do everything I can to become healthy.
I am SO going back to the herbalist and the Shiatsu therapist.

Oh, I've got the NHS down to a fine art, me. I got the fibroid letter now. Rereading it, it says that the Hysterosalpingogram clearly showed that the fibroid doesn't distort the INSIDE of my uterus, so fertility-wise, I should be ok. However, I will be monitored.

Guess when I'll get the ultrasound?

February 2005.

Guess when I'll get the appointment with a doctor?

March 8, 2005, 11am.

PLenty of time to get my little grapefruit down ...

I'm home now btw, with an upset stomach.
