OK, I am due to answer some questions now ...

(... as you might have guessed, WORX is slow and boring ...)

[livejournal.com profile] bucketgirl:

1) What do you think is the most important message of Christianity
(or if you want, another philosophy/religion) for the modern world?

To love each other and to be compassionate

2) What do you consider a self-defining moment for you--the
occasion, the year, the time that made you what you are?

The moment I realised I had a dark side. I've been fighting it ever since.

3) How does the Harry Potter series speak to you?
As a world to escape to. I'm quite fine at the moment, so I barely read HP
anymore.

4) What do you like best about living where you live?
What do you like least about living where you live?

Best: the landscape, the city, the people, the research environment
at the Universities, the language. The Highlands three hours away.

Least: the lack of sun, the crap lending libraries,
the fact that I will have to leave to be closer to my parents

5)What do you want to be doing in five years? Ten years? Twenty years?
Five years: have two kids, a qualification in massage, and a qualification in counselling
Ten years: live in a nice city with my family, working part time as an academic
Twenty years: cope graciously with two to three teenagers; be established as a holistic
practicioner (counselling-cum-bodywork)

6) What made you start writing?
I always liked to be creative with words. I also want to use this novel to silence the me-centred
chatter in my head.

[livejournal.com profile] delamancha:

1) How/why did you leave Germany?
Because of the job I found in Scotland.

2) What is the one best thing you've ever done?
What is the one best thing that's ever happened to you?

Going for my husband - and him accepting my proposal.
Also, realising that as I prepare to hit the thirties, both my appearance
and my state of mind are improving. So it's not all downhill! :)

3) If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be and why?

I'm not much into trees and botany, I'm afraid - so I can't really choose.
But type-wise, I'd like to be a small tree with nourishing fruit and deep, strong roots,
preferably growing in desert or tundra. Then I'd be really useful.

4) Summarize the plot of your favorite book in five words.

Boy discovers his wizard potential.

5) Describe your favorite
article of clothing, past or present. (Like a really KEWL shirt or
something.) What makes/made it your favorite?

Skirts - either short and sweet or long and flowing.
Tops - anything that doesn't make me look fat.

1. Suppose someone offers you the chance to learn a language that
would be almost useless to you due to its obscurity, difficulty, or the
remoteness of the majority of its speakers from your present
location. Would you take that chance? What language would you choose and why?

Definitely. Sanskrit is too obvious - too many applications. But I'd really like to learn
Ancient Hittite or Sumerian, just because I'm fascinated by those cultures. One of the things I really missed out on during my linguistics studies was typology, and hence the chance to learn and study lots of different languages. Something for retirement!

2. Sweet or savoury, what's your comfort food of choice?
Sweet.

3. What's the greatest compliment anyone ever gave you that you
hadn't realised about yourself?

That I was a good friend, just as I'd realised that all too often, I make a pretty crappy and egoistical friend.

4. Small town or large country - where have you felt most at home on
earth, and why?

Bonn. I lived there for long enough, the public library is great, we got a fair share of sunny days, the houses are bright and have cheerful colours, the infrastructure is sound, and the dialect of the people is not too far from that of the place where I grew up. Plus, the train connections to other parts of Europe and Germany are just great.

Edinburgh is catching up fast, though - for sheer beauty.

5. Who is your favourite actor, male or female, from the
black-and-white movie era?

Am not much of a movie buff ... it would be a young Horst Buchholz
