on the spiritual front: I was at mass in Spain. And it was good! The formulaic delivery helped me focus on the liturgy. Definitely need to try this more often.

on the infertility front: I'm getting better and better at coping. Drugging self with lattes helps, of course - as do exciting new research plans formed at the Barcelona conference.

on the friends front: you know, sometimes we're probably too quick with advice, in the hope that the other person's problem will GO AWAY and STOP BOTHERING us. But this is not the way to go. Listening empathetically is much better. I am quite crap at that, but I hope that I will become better.

LJ's a weird thing, isn't it? It's a journal, but it's online, and (sorta) public, so, inevitably, we try and filter (whether consciously or subconsciously) those thoughts we feel appropriate for transmission.

So, what should you write about? Whatever you want to write about. Some posts will probably sail way over my head, some won't.

Oh, and Pirates? Definitely worth seeing.

so here I am, wanting to encourage some audience participation - and the audience refuses to participate :(

Still, at least I got to play with the poll feature!

I think you are absolutely correct about advice. My children are now 22, 20, and 15 respectively. I have learned to bite my tongue, and keep my counsel to myself. I never offer unsolicted advice to them, nor do I tell them what they "should" do. They must make decisions, experience the consequences of bad decisions, and the joy of good decisions. But they can not mature, unless they are making their own decisions.

I found Mass to be much more... dealable-with once I realised I had it mostly memorised by rote and wasn't being forced to attend (which is why I memorised it, of course).

Not that that's made me any better an attendee, but now I don't mind going.

Re: advice -- and then some of us have been told we're 'fixers' and can't stand that somebody's got an unresolved problem. ;)
