I went for Sociolinguists and Discourse Analysist, But my Project was based on Norman Fairclough's work - Language and Power which doesn't quite fit into any of your choices.

Saying that I've put it all out of my mind now so couldn't tell you the difference between, Janet Holmes, Michael Halliday, Chompsky et al.

I did a Master's in Linguistics, but that was a full twenty years ago. I'd love to hear what's new in *all* of those areas!

p.s. Do you have a new bumper sticker slogan, or is it still "Linguists do it orally" and "Linguists do it in trees" ? :-) (-:
