cars: so ... we've almost definitely decided to call it a day and bin the car. Too old, too many miles - if the repair costs less than 100 pounds, ok, if not, that was it, folks.
I'm eyeballing Nissan Almeras and Ford Mondeos as potential replacements. Registration date mid-Nineties - we don't want to spend too much on a car that will idle on the street for most of the week. On the other hand, should I, by some unfathomable miracle, indeed get pregnant, we will need a nice, roomy 5-door car quickly. I have been told by people in the know that ferrying babies around on public transport is arduous. So, the idea is to have an older, reliable, sizeable car on standby that is big enough and will last us four to six years. (Yes, folks - my husband is very happy to let me do the car hunting.)

Writing: I've stocked up on creative writing books for NaNoWriMo. I've already finished Stephen King's "On Writing" - an excellent book. He encourages you to start with a situation and take it from there. Yay! Also, he writes 2000 words a day. Exactly the output you need for NaNoWriMo ...

Work: I've decided to reduce my involvement in my current job even further. Yes, next week, I will tell my boss: from October 1, you shall have only 12 more days of my precious time. (Silent vow to self not to spend said days on LiveJournal). Use them wisely.

I hope he accepts this bargain. I mean, come on - I told them at the end of July that I was leaving on January 1st. I gave them more than five months' notice of my desire to leave the company. There isn't even a job ad for my replacement out yet. If they had their act together, the ad would be out by now, they would be interviewing next month, and I would have time to show the new person the ropes before I leave.

If my boss doesn't settle for 12 more days, then maybe for 24 days (40%)? Definitely not 36 (60%), which is what I will be working from Monday onwards ...

I'm starting my Vipassana Buddhist medidation online course soon. If anybody wants to be kept up to date, tell me and I shall set up a filter.

I definitely want to be on that Vipassana filter if you're setting one up.

From what I remember, Almera's are not particularly roomy in the back, if you're considering possible future family potential. My hubbie, being the fan of German-Swedish engineering that he is, would probably suggest you look at VW Passats or Audi A4/A6, which all have bags of room in them.

"On Writing" was excellent. I just finished it myself. He's a very unusual person...I think we might get along if we ever met.

I'm interested in the Buddhist thing, as well...please include me in the filter.

*hugs* Good luck on the car hunting thing.

Yeesh, I'm sorry about the car. Damn. Good luck sorting a replacement.

And I would also be interested in your meditation course. I've never been able to manage it myself, and I'd be intreguied to see what you have to say.

Good luck on the Car search

Best of luck on searching for a newer car! I got my current car 3 years ago because my 12 year old Hyundai needed repairs that cost more than the car was worth. So off to auto-heaven it went! Are auto-salespeople where you live less sleazy than the ones in the USA? Hope so! My Dad *loves* car-shopping, bargaining the price, everything.

Yes please could you add me to the Vipassana filter? I'm currently reading Joko Beck's 'Nothing Special'. It's very good!

The best advice I've heard for aspiring writers is to write, write, write. Write something every day.

I would like to hear about Vipassana Buddhist meditation.

Happy car hunting!

Well, good luck on the car-hunting front...

I hope, too, that your employers see reason and let you cut things back to 20% (I'm sure you won't spend all the time on LJ: after all, apart from RotK, the PotC DVD, news from the HP set and stuff... um... OK, there probably will be things Being Discussed (or squeee'd over)).

and thanks a lot for your advice - I would never have taken Nissan seriously, but it looks like it's a good car, judging from the What Car Used Cars rating.
