We went to a lovely Vegetarian Gujarati restaurant in Nicholson Square, Edinburgh, Ann Purna. I had vegetable korma to die for and finished off with a low-cal yoghurt-nut-saffron mix.

Yum!

In the evening, we scoured car magazines - Which Car? Guide, specifically - for an affordable, reliable, low-fuel-consumption vehicle. We've narrowed our choice down to Nissan Almera (as recommended by [livejournal.com profile] slowfox), Nissan Micra, Ford Ka, Ford Fiesta, and Ford Mondeo. Everything else is either too expensive or not reliable enough. I'm assuming responsibility for the car search, even though I don't have a driving licence. This is the secret for a happy marriage, folks - he leaves her to deal with the outside world, while he cleans the kitchen :).

Sounds like you have a good arrangement there, percival!!

Re cars: I know I said before that the Almera might not be roomy enough if you're looking for family potential, but Nissans in general are very good (after K-reg. Before that they're liable to rust). I've got a fairly old Nissan Micra 1.3 LX, and it's a brilliant little car! It's economical - I get around 40 mpg, even though most of my driving is to/from town - reliable and, having a 1.3 engine in a car that size, it's pretty nippy too. And it's still in the cheaper bracket for car tax, being under 1400cc. A friend of mine has the 1.0 litre version, and she gets a good 45 mpg out of it most of the time. So if it's a small car you want, I can definitely recommend the Micra!

This is pretty much a bit ditto to what Cynthia said. I've got a Nissan Micra with the smaller engine size and it's a good little car. While it won't hold a double bed, the back seat does fold down so you can get a surprising amount of rubbish in the back if you're only 2 people.

I love your secret for a happy marriage.

I am the doorman for two little dachsunds, and chief cook...happier than I used to be.
