on the job front: significantly revised the ad for my successor today and mailed it to the main speech and phonetics people in Germany.

The company I work for lets me cut down to 20% from October 1 until December 31. (Phew) I can't really afford these hours, but the money will come in handy, it will come in useful when moving back to Germany to have had three yars' consecutive industry experience, and I don't want to let them down - were I to give notice, they would be in deep ... mud.

I had just written an e-mail to the CEO and to my boss this morning, pleading for a decision. My boss' reaction: "Oh, sorry, I forgot to tell you - yes, the arrangement is OK, I sorted it out with the CTO on Tuesday." Gee, thanks boss for letting me know.
