so, we met with the mortgage advisor today. Looks like we have enough cash and cash pulling power to buy a two to three bedroom apartment (closer to town) or house (a little further out). Looks like we'll do it, even though it will cost us more than renting. But it's the safest option. We underestimated our joint income, because we don't want ot end up overstretching ourselves.

And this, I'm afraid, will also spell the end of my dreams to become a NaNo winner. I'll still write - but there is NO way I am going to be able to combine

  • househunting (and make no mistake, I'm going to do most of the legwork)

  • working three jobs (yes, finally down to three)

  • writing a grant application

with writing 2000 words a day.

I can make it 1000 at most.

And then, I have the "lost weekend" in Germany, where I won't be able to write, because life will be a procession of relatives. We'll start in Tilburg, where I'll give a colloquium talk that relates to the big grant proposal I'm preparing. Then dinner at 6pm, then off to parents, then on Saturday, onwards to Hubby's relatives.

So, apologies if I don't comment as often as I used to. I just don't have the time.

Busy life! Good luck with the house hunting! And don't worry about comments in my LJ... we'll have plenty of time to catch up when you get here!

Excellent news about the mortgage application, and trust me, I know all about a crazy life. You know I was still at work at 9.30pm yesterday. Sorry I didn't get a chance to log online and let you know.

Good luck with all the bits you've got to do and keep chipping away at the story when you have time. I'm enjoying it so far!

You have your priorities straight, my dear. Besides, to me the point of NaNo for some is not the finishing in one month, but the starting to write at all. I know that you may have to pace it to suit your life's schedule, but you won't give up.

I have to apologise to you too ... I am already falling behind reading your stuff and [livejournal.com profile] sourcebook's. It seems that I can either write NaNo, or read it, but not both for very long! I shall have to catch up at the end.

Got to agree with the above. And also - good luck. *hugs*

Go for it!

Buying a place will definitely cost more than renting, but at least you'll get rid of rent expenses in the long run :)

Good luck with all your endeavors! We'll miss you, but we'll also be glad to know you're OK and happily (we hope) busy with a lot of stuff :D *hugs*

Percy,

No apologies required. You truly sound overwhelmed. Your rationalisation makes perfect sense, as others have pointed out.

do take care of your physical and mental equilibrium first and foremost, or none of the rest will matter a jot.

and thanks for being the one who set me on this particular treadmill - I'm still happily on the hook (even though Radio 4 haven't come through yet) and am looking forward to a big session tonight.
