why is YOUR livejournal annoying?

Indeed.

Let's make it quick, because I'm soon off to see a solicitor to - hopefully - put in a bid for a house.

... went well. She's an active little baby who tries to walk - at 8 months - and is the darling of the extended family. She looks just like my brother-in-law and is very cute. My husband seems to delight in his godparent duties. He actually ASKED to hold her and WANTED to play with her! This is most unusual for him, because as far as babies go, he likes to be clueless and hand the little bugger back as soon as possible. When asked what the difference was, he said she was his god child and she was family.

They had a great christening, during the service, which is unusual for German Catholics, where baptisms are usually a ceremony for all babies to be christened that month that takes place some time in the afternoon.

Hubby was also very interested in our friends' little boy when they came round the last time. Should we adopt, a toddler will definitely be easier for him, because he thinks they're cute and they can be engaged in play activities. (Stop thinking about Chinese toddler girls, Percy. NOW.)

The christening had the potential of being gut-wrenching, but because I have so much else on the go where a baby really wouldn't fit in anymore, I was more or less fine, apart from a minute during the actual service where I was choking ever so slightly.

I'm pleased to see some of my online friendships translate into RL friendships. I'm seeing quite a lot of Imogen these days, which is lovely! I've also found that LJ is now my only way of keeping up with the fandom. I've virtually left the Quill, because I've only got time for one strong online commitment these days, and that is LJ. I've now gone into lurker mode, which means that I CHEX periodically, i.e. every 2-3 days, what is going on on my friends list, but not daily, as I used to.

Jobwise, it's a busy month. I've a grant proposal due on 10 December, which I have been procrastinating about for a while now by printing off lots of references from the Web, I need to write two papers, and I've got to work on another paper together with colleagues in the States. Work on this started in 1999. I got the data ready for publication in 2002. But then, in 2003, they got an RA on board who found a couple of mistakes in the data, which were due to problems with my scripts. (They were mostly written during all-nighters because my job didn't leave me any time to do research, if that's an excuse.) So I go back and redo the scripts and the analysis and thoroughly debug the data. Now they have found another problem. Cue another half-day spent working, this time to convert the label files we've created to the format of the program that they are now switching to. But that half-day will be a Saturday ...

Luckily, most of the teaching is done, with only one more lecture to prepare.

Finally, my wisdom tooth got infected, and I've been quite unproductive for the past three days. It's not so much the pain, which is quite tolerable, really, the tooth is now merely uncomfortable to have in my mouth, but the hunting for a doctor, then waiting for the infection to subside, spending quality time at the dentist ... I've now scheduled a wisdom tooth extraction for Feburary 27.

[whimper] Box? [/whimper]

I feel for your tooth. I've got a molar of some sort that's decided to start coming apart on me. Thankfully... it doesn't hurt.

I hope your tooth problem is cleared up soon. It's annoying and you want to be able to eat all the Texas food you can eat very soon!!

Best of luck on the house hunt.

It's great to hear that the christening went well!

And as for the wisdom teeth...ouch. Hope that goes well too.
