... and what happens?

- They forget appointments.

- They decline for a number of reasons. Some say "I'd rather not"
one says "I don't want to be massaged by somebody in training."
Yet another hums and haws after already having had one massage.

Which leaves me thinking:
- Do I smell?
- Am I that bad?
- Do I intimidate people?
- Is it because these people know me?

Anyway, incessant lobbying has got me five case studies so far (including The Hubby), and several more in the pipeline.

In the New Year, I'm going to reserve some time at the Glasgow Tibetan Rokpa centre to offer massages to my Glaswegian friends. I might get an extra massage table for that one.

I've also nailed a couple of potential case studies in York (soupytwist, any interest?).

Ah, the joys of training as a massage therapist ...

Whoa, people are standing you up when you are donating your time and energy?? Eep. I guess they don't understand what you're offering. I've been worked on by a student masseuse before and it was wonderful! Wish I lived nearby, I'd be a happy volunteer. Hang in there and be persistent. Once you work on someone I doubt they would turn you down again. :-)

I noticed one of the rationales for charging for a Reiki treatment was the theory that people 'do not value that which is free'. That philosophy rather bugged me, especially since Reiki healing energy is supposedly available to all from the Source, but I can see in your experience a reason for that attitude.

I would take your free student massage!!! There are several massage schools in my smallish city, and during July several students from one of those schools came to my office building and offered free 10-minute neck and shoulder massages. It was a win-win situation; I got a great massage and the student got "hands-on" (oops) credit toward her certificate. I can't imagine why anyone would pass up an opportunity like this. *lies in front of computer so you can massage me through the screen - LOL* Thank you *aaah*

Like everyone else said, who would turn down a free massage? Insane! And actually, I was just thinking today that what I would really love for Christmas is a massage; gift certificates, I guess, because I don't know anyone who can massage.

Ha! What did I tell you? People's commitment to keeping appointments is in inverse proportion to the amount you ask them to pay (in my experience). Reminds me of the old priest in the Power and the Glory who told the anti-hero whisky priest that people don't value what they don't have to pay for.
