So, I have been attuned now.

... to Reiki. I used to think that Reiki was total nonsense, but I'm not so sure now.

For the more scientifically minded, you can regard it as a powerful autosuggestion method with which you calm your mind and soul.

The idea is to imagine that you are linked to the Source (for some people, God), and channel that energy of love to work for the highest and greatest good of all concerned. The attunement opens you for that energy very efficiently.

I realise that this might appear sacrilegious to some, but in my book, everybody is meant to be a channel for God's love, so this is not as strange as it might seem.

The outcomes of Reiki healing are very ill-defined and as such not amenable to scientific study. Because you are inviting the Higher Being to work through you, you cannot direct where the healing force goes, or on which level (mental, emotional, spiritual, physical) it works.

The next steps on the path are:
- to heal myself with 30 minute rituals and 15 minute meditations (daily! wonder whether I'll manage)
- to arrange sessions with four people to give them an hour of undivided love and attention, channelling that for which I've been opened

I see the self-healing as a very, very powerful autosuggestion, while treating others induces a deep trance which can then be used to let the body bring about healing.

(Reiki energy is supposed to manifest as heat. Did I feel it? Yes, but it could be autosuggestion. Did I feel something during the treatments I gave and received? Yes, of course. But again, that could be my mind telling me where I wanted / needed healing.)

Very interesting. Please let us know how you get on with it. I know some people who swear by it, others who are very suspicious, including people who are magick users themselves. I don't really know enough to have an informed opinion myself.

I've never heard of it. Let us know how it works out.

I've always been a skeptic where reiki is concerned, but I know several people who are true believers in the practice. So much of healing depends upon those involved's belief. The mind is the strongest doctor many times and, if both parties truly believe in the work, then there is no reason why it can't help.

The healing ritual for the practitioner is new to me. How interesting. Could you elaborate on the rituals? (I'm fascinated by ritual of all sorts.)

I have, see the most recent entry :) I haven't been very specific, but these rituals are usually elaborated on in most of the books on Reiki.

Isn't it lovely?

The heat is very real. It's the physical manifestation of energy.

You will find that the more you practice, the more readily it all comes to you. I believe that Reiki works or I wouldn't do it. People who are amenable to it get better results. It's not something to try to 'force' on non-believers, but I use it in my massage practice all the time. Every day. Since the energy flows through us as practitioners, we get the benefits of it every time we use it. It works over vast distances, because thought equals energy and energy is boundless.

It can only be used for good, never for anything less. It's given with unconditional love.

Reiki is such a loving and mellow thing to receive, and yet it can be more powerful than many other modalities.

It was my Polarity Therapy teacher who told me that the lighter the physical touch, the deeper the work on an energetic level. The same thing applies to Reiki as to Polarity (which, for those of you reading who may not be familiar is another form of energy work; the 'feel' of it is vastly different from the feel of Reiki as it works with a different energetic system in the body). We work lightly physically, but the energetic results can be so deep and moving.

At its very least effective, a Reiki session is calming and peaceful. I liken it to the feeling of being in a flotation tank, or in a warm ocean, or somewhere ultimately womb-like. It's very floaty and relaxing.

At its most effective, Reiki can engender huge emotional and physical results. I won't get into my specific experiences here in your journal, Perceval, but we can talk about it any time.

Congratulations.

Yes, now I only have to summon the energy to do the daily self-healing ...

I find that it's very easy for me to put off things that are beneficial to me.

I discovered reiki in my search to find out more about chi from my martial arts training. My final conclusion is that something is there indeed, but that the 'master' was stumbling in the dark, and leading us to stumble behind her.

I think it's benign at best, incomplete at worst. No, not worst. The worst is when people take things like reiki or other half-understood things and build on them as if they had a firm foundation.

But I don't think that will happen to you. :)

Yes, incompleteness is a serious problem with Reiki. I've addressed this in more detail in the following entry, but yes, you do need an awful lot of spiritual development work to keep the channel cleared.
