Well, I've been good.

I've been reading your entries, but not commenting.

But now, I hav a major job running on Galadriel, and I need to kill time. I don't want to go back to the Youth Hostel where I'm staying. And I'm too tired to read WORX stuff.

So, how's Galadriel been doing?

Fine, except that I should NEVER EVER let her hibernate. It killed her right off at the start of my lecture this morning. Both mouse and keyboard stopped working. As a consequence, I had to swiftly transfer my lecture ot blackboard. A good hard restart saved her, and now she's doing fine again.

To top it all off, I wasn't the most alert of lecturers this morning. I'd been working on the first lecture until 1am on Sunday, after a day mostly spent travelling in planes, trains, and a car. On Monday, my room was empty, and I was looking forward to a good night's sleep.

I obviously hadn't foreseen the three giggling girls who burst into the room at 11:30pm. They were part of a group of 8 or ten teens. They had just arrived from Belgium, and kept whispering among themselves while they unpacked essentials, hung up their jackets, and settled in.

Now, in a 10 square metre room, even a whisper is LOUD. Especially when you've been trying to get to sleep for the last hour.

They kept apologizing, for sure. Next thing I knew, before they had even made a start on sorting out the bedclothes, they inform me that they are going out to get something to eat.

We now have 11:50pm. The Youth Hostel closes at 12am.

Apparently, they manage to wangle a key, because I do not see or hear a thing for a while. I've almost managed to fall asleep, when, at 12:40am, they come back. And start fighting with the Youth Hostel bed covers, which need to be pulled over duvet and pillow and mattress. While whispering frantically to each other, of course. They assure me that I can sleep, nd that they are very sorry for disturbing me, but I decide "What the heck" and start reading Sharon Salzberg's "Lovingkindness". You know, somehow I had to stop myself from killing them. Mantra: "They are tired, too, they are tired, too ..."

The last girl returns from the showers at 1.20am.

Good night ...

... and up bright and early at 6:45am, when they are woken by my alarm clock. Sleeping in impossible, because the dynamic girls are getting up. The stamina of youth!

When I return from breakfast at 7:30am, they still aren't ready to go down for their meal.

Needless to say, today, what with Galadriel breaking down, I wasn't the fittest of campers, and now I am delaying my return to the Youth Hostel for fear of another inhospitable reception.

But itll be alright.

If not, I hope by God that the Youth Hostel has single rooms or rooms with only two beds. Otherwise, I'm going to have to sleep in the office.

Owch, man. *hugs* Glad to hear you're alive, though and that Galadriel is doing OK despite hibernation.

Argh. I'm a light sleeper who also needs a LOT of sleep so you have my sympathies.

My own laptop (not a wireless) also doesn't react well to being put in hibernation. I switched the power scheme to Always On, which keeps it from going into hibernate mode, though the screen-saver still comes on.

*smax the girls*

Basic Youth Hostel etiquette; get everything done before you leave. Make every effort to go to bed soundlessly. Whispering is DEAD ANNOYING. So is LIGHT. There are COMMUNAL AREAS. Use them. This took me two nights to learn. Maybe they're on their first trip?

On a side note, when will you be back home? I was sort of hoping for a chance to ask you for a favour...
