Well, after the first two sessions (1 hour and 2 hours, respectively) at our baby's nursery went extremely well, I thought that nursery was going to be a doddle for her today. She was absorbed by her surroundings, investigated everything and everybody, and had a grand old time. So today, having dropped her off and left after five minutes, I settled down for a major session of latte, muffin, pasta salad and Oprah magazine at a nearby Cafe Nero.

However, I was too optimistic. Today, we had major meltdown day. She seems to have realised that I will go AWAY for quite a while when I leave her there, and seems to have been howling a lot. It doesn't help that a few other babies are still settling in - somebody's always howling.
She's reasonably happy with Daddy at the minute, but we had an episode this evening when she would scream if I so much as put her down. She was the same when I collected her from nursery at lunchtime.

Life ...

One good thing about transitions is that they don't last forever. She will get used to everything and everyone. It takes a little time.

I know it's tough, but she'll get over it, and she'll be fine. Bring a favourite toy-from-home or something, if she has an attachment to any particular item - that can help with transition, too.

Oscar has thankfully been fine with stuff like that, but oh, man, the stories about how bad Emily was with stuff like that. Poor kid would freak the hell out every single time she was left somewhere new, until she'd been there enough times to realise that she wasn't going to be there forever and somebody would come and get her. It's really tough; hearing the shrieking and stuff hurts, but it'll finish. Good luck. *hugs and good luck.*

She will get used to it quickly, honest, so do keep soldiering on through. You always imagine, though that she's spending every single moment you're not there wailing, but that's very rarely the case: kids often put on more of a show for Mummy than anyone else

oh dear... I guess she will get used to it eventually.... don't worry, nursery teachers do understand she's too young to be told to be quiet....
