The company my husband works for has decided to cut 1000 jobs - a seventh of its work force - in Edinburgh.

We will probably know in September whether he will be among the people to be made redundant.

This means tightening our belts.

Oh no, that's terrible news :-( I do hope and pray that he won't be one of those affected.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to dwell on it - it hasn't happened yet, and it may not do, so it's not worth tying yourself in knots over just yet.

::hugs::

Damn, life really is kicking you in the ass recently, isn't it? Bah. I hope this means some good luck is coming your way soon.

*hugs* to you and hubby.

Sorry to hear that. They really drag these things out in this country. I hope it all ends for the best, whether that means your husband moves on to something else or he stays. I've been on both sides of that divide and neither of them are necessarily very pretty.

I'm actually pretty optimistic - he's an Oracle DB programmer who is good at his job, with Windows Messenger skills. He reads Oracle books for pleasure and enjoys his job greatly. I'll look out for certification he might want to get while still at the company.

thanks! depending on how things evolve, this also means that fertilitywise, we are probably going to go for the free IVF instead of the costly adoption ... at least initially

plus I am SCARED of the paperwork. I really am.

hope you are getting on ok with your lovely daughter

IVF is free??? Goodness you're lucky. It's very expensive here.

As for the paperwork - well, it's not fun. And when you first see it, it's intimidating. But when you start breaking it down, it's not really so bad. A hassle but not frightening. We're getting ours tomorrow, though - so we'll see if I still think that! lol

You can have one go at it if you've been trying for more than three years. Some people think that National Health Service resources should be used on more important things, but there you go ...

Don't look at it as 1000 people getting laid off, look at it as six sevenths of the workforce has job security. His odds are not too bad.

You probably don't know me at all, but I had to comment as this is something so familiar to me at the moment. I don't know what it is with companies and making people redundant at the moment, but I certainly know how you feel. (My Dad works for ITV and is most probably being made redundant within the next year.)

But still, I just wanted to say, I have my fingers crossed for you and your husband. :)
