I have my data BAX!
Apr. 6th, 2004 09:55 amTeh Shiny (i.e. a USB 2.0 enclosure for my notebook hard disk drive) arrived today after ordering it yesterday. Unpacked, unscrewed the HD from its notebook case, plugged it in - WORKS.
I think I will call Teh Shiny Gimli, in honour of the way in which it galloped to my aid as quickly as it could.
Note that yesterday @ PCWorld, the friendly sales staff (HAH) claimed that they did not sell kit to connect Laptop HDs to desktops, that such kit wasn't available via retail, and suggested that I should try eBay.
The MORONS.
Thanks to
slowfox for vetting the solution, and to our local computer support guy for his help.

PLUS you've now got a pretty nifty portably hard drive in its own right, too! Perfect for transferring data between machines via USB and stuff.
Am so pleased that worked out for you, and so relieved that you got your data BAX!
