Teh Shiny (i.e. a USB 2.0 enclosure for my notebook hard disk drive) arrived today after ordering it yesterday. Unpacked, unscrewed the HD from its notebook case, plugged it in - WORKS.

I think I will call Teh Shiny Gimli, in honour of the way in which it galloped to my aid as quickly as it could.

Note that yesterday @ PCWorld, the friendly sales staff (HAH) claimed that they did not sell kit to connect Laptop HDs to desktops, that such kit wasn't available via retail, and suggested that I should try eBay.

The MORONS.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] slowfox for vetting the solution, and to our local computer support guy for his help.

USB keys are getting cheap - got a 256MB Sandisk key for $50. The USB ports on my new machine don't all seem to be working right, however, so now I'm contemplating a call for onsite service if I can't get it sorted out. Always something. :-P

At least now pretty much all my current art is on two PCs - a rather rude form of backup.
