about [livejournal.com profile] pottersginny ... I wonder. My first reaction to her LJ was compassion. Why, oh why, is she filled with such hate? Look at her mood icons. Almost always angry or aggravated.

The second reaction was: What would Jesus say to her views?

The third: look at what a too literal interpretation of the *whole* bible can do to you.

Buddhism and Christianity taught me not to counter hate with hate, but with love.

In fact, Buddhism teaches us to love and respect all beings, including cockroaches, fluffy kittens,
and people like [livejournal.com profile] pottersginny.

They might be our teachers.

That said, would I like to be friended by [livejournal.com profile] pottersginny? No.

But you know what? I'll pray for her - and for me, so that I may never become as close-minded as her.

Lord Jesus, have mercy on us.

I so hope that [livejournal.com profile] piperx is right and she's fake ...

... and I'm not as angry as you because I don't have as many friends in mixed-race marriages or
non-Caucasian friends and have never really seen racism. So it's (rather too)
easy to be a good Christian for me on that issue :)

I guess when people say the Net's anti-Christian they really just state the obvious: the Net's mostly liberal,
and doesn't welcome intolerance of the sort we've seen here.

You know - *I* am mixed race. And I have to point out that ANYONE can use ANYTHING they want to be prejudiced. My abuelo, wonderful man that he was, hated white people. There was no real reason - just that "the white man kept him down" kinda thing - and he was really successful!!! He has (had, he passed) 8 kids and 3 of them have PHd's! ALL of them have degree's but one! And almost all his daughters married white men (because of his prejudice IMO) and his son's white women.

I got to hear it from both sides though.

The good thing about it is... I don't consider myself "mixed race" - I'm American. I can be a mutt - that's what this place is all about - right? I know more and more mutts like me... and I hope people keep making MUTTS! The only way to get rid of the racism is for there to be no races. BUT, that being said... we'll just find another thing to be prejudiced about..

You summed it up perfectly . . .

Right on, sister. Swampfaye, you ROX. :)

In my case, I always figured that the Native American and the Amish heritages cancelled each other out. . .

I've been a netaholic since my graduation from uni in '95, and I do find that "the 'net" (to the degree that it can be generalised) is anti-Christian- but only because angry, vocal, literalistic Christian fundamentalism has come to represent mainstream Christianity in the eyes of many.

The Net's mostly liberal and anti-intolerance; many view Christianity as being intrinsically conservative and intolerant; so many are thus anti-Christian, which ironically can lead to some interesting displays of intolerance.

Sad, really.

welcome BAX! :) you've been missed ...

Yes, some Evangelical Zealots are now giving Christianity a bad name. As if the History of the Catholic Church wasn't enough ... ;)
